Jason’s Web Design Story

Hello!

My name is Jason Wydro.

I started toying around with computers at the age of 7 back in the 80’s. My father had spent a fortune on an Apple IIc for his company. He tried to use it for tracking his business finances, but soon his attempts to use the archaic piece of equipment failed. The Apple software proved itself useless and too time-consuming for any sensible use, so I took it over and started buying and trading games with friends.

I spent hours fiddling with syntax errors, playing with my father’s decrepit financial software (even though I had no idea what it was supposed to do), and trying every button and function the machine could do.

I quickly became a techie junkie, and I wanted more! I began scoping out my neighbor’s Commodore and messing around with DOS. I really liked toying with the DOS file system, even though I didn’t have much practical use for it.

I continued to experiment with various computer systems, and in the mid 90’s I started toying around with HTML source code.

My online career officially started in 1998. I was hired by a long distance company to build their company website and process database records with pre-written applications, using dBase. I later found out that the main reason I had been hired was because I had answered an important question honestly. When asked about my prior experience as a webmaster, I had responded that I had none.

Honesty and help are two key values I live by. Helping others may not pay the bills, but in terms of self-satisfaction, there is always an unparalleled reward.

In 2000, I was employed by PostcardMania. This is an amazing group of people and it was a fantastic experience where I learned a lot about traditional marketing and general design. During my tenure at PostcardMania I spent my free time collecting vintage drums, learning Macromedia (now Adobe) Fireworks, studying LAMP stack, and building product display pages for vintage percussion items I was aggregating and selling on a custom OScommerce website, Ebay and Yahoo. I was the largest vintage drum dealer on Ebay for 4 years: DrummersGalaxy.

I continued with DrummersGalaxy and freelance web design, implementing online marketing campaigns, designing websites, developing with OScommerce, whipping up banner designs, search engine optimization, and other general website development and online marketing strategies. These efforts were highly successful, and all of my personal goals were realized.

In 2005, I was ready to move onto the next stage of my professional life, creating and reaching new goals. I created w3developing, LLC which was a culmination of freelance web clients spanning 2001-2005, while simultaneously continuing to run DrummersGalaxy. I also went back to college for about a year studying Perl, php and general LAMP environment stuff. At this time, I finally laid DrummersGalaxy to rest, and dedicated 100% of my time to advancing my web skills and generating new business for w3developing.

In 2006, I continued on with w3developing and other volunteer and for-profit fun technology creations. I founded a podcast that is now featured on iTunes titled Online Strategy Podcast – A podcast for business owners about web and online theories (and a bunch of WordPress stuff).
