Why I Chose to Review the Tuni E2 Espresso Machine

As a coffee lover, I’ve always dreamed of recreating that rich, creamy espresso from my favorite coffee shop at home. After researching countless machines, I was sent the Tuni E2 for its impressive features: a 58mm commercial-grade portafilter, dual boiler system, and a robust accessory package that screams value. Plus, it’s a step up from other budget machines like the Casabrew, which I’ve also tried and enjoyed. Spoiler alert: the Tuni E2 didn’t disappoint!

Unboxing and First Impressions

When my Tuni E2 arrived, I was immediately impressed by the secure packaging and premium feel of the components. The box includes everything you need to start brewing right away: a 58mm stainless steel portafilter, single and double-shot filter baskets, a tamper (2x), a milk frothing jug, and even a measuring spoon. Unlike the Casabrew’s lighter, less durable accessories, the Tuni E2’s portafilter has a satisfying weight and a professional-grade build. I also loved the rubber foot on the portafilter, and suction feet on the machine, which protect my counter and keep it stable during use.

Setting up was straightforward, but here’s a tip: don’t forget to remove the protective tape from the water tank! After washing the tank, filters, and other components, I was ready to brew in about 15 minutes.

Key Features of the Tuni E2 Espresso Machine

Let’s dive into what makes the Tuni E2 stand out:

  • 58mm Commercial-Grade Portafilter: This industry-standard size ensures optimal extraction and rich crema. It’s a huge upgrade from the 51mm portafilters on budget machines.
  • Dual Boiler System: Unlike single-boiler machines, the Tuni E2 lets you steam milk and pull espresso without losing pressure or temperature. It heats up in just 30 seconds!
  • 20-Bar ULKA Pump: This Italian pump delivers consistent pressure for flavorful shots every time.
  • Touchscreen Controls: The intuitive touch panel makes it easy to adjust brew temperature and volume, perfect for customizing your coffee.
  • 10mm Steam Wand: It produces dense microfoam for lattes and cappuccinos, rivaling professional machines.

Compared to the Casabrew, the Tuni E2 feels more premium, with stainless steel piping and a plastic-free brewing head. The Casabrew’s lighter portafilter and single-boiler system couldn’t match the Tuni’s performance or durability.

My Brewing Experience

Brewing with the Tuni E2 is a joy, but it does require some coffee know-how. Here’s how I got the perfect shot:

  1. Grind Size: I used finely ground coffee (espresso-specific) with my Tuni G1 Conical Burr Grinder. Too coarse, and you’ll get weak espresso; too fine, and it’ll taste bitter.
  2. Tamping: I filled the portafilter, tamped evenly with moderate pressure, and ensured no grounds spilled over.
  3. Brewing: The machine’s pre-infusion feature blooms the grounds for better extraction. I pulled a double shot in about 25 seconds, and the crema was thick and golden.
  4. Frothing Milk: The 10mm steam wand created silky microfoam for my cappuccino in under a minute.

My first few shots weren’t perfect (I had to dial in the grind size), but once I got the hang of it, the Tuni E2 delivered rich, aromatic espresso that rivaled my local café. The pressure gauge helped me monitor extraction, ensuring consistent results.

Maintenance and Cleaning

To keep the Tuni E2 in top shape, I run hot water through the system after each use to flush out coffee residues (and BEFORE first time use). I would also recommend descaling the machine every few months to prevent buildup. The user manual includes a parts list for replacements, and Tuni has support support@tunicafe.com. This machine is built to last with proper care.

Pros and Cons of the Tuni E2 Espresso Machine

Pros:

  • Professional-grade 58mm portafilter for optimal extraction
  • Dual boiler system for simultaneous brewing and steaming
  • Comprehensive accessory package—no extra purchases needed (expresso beans not included.)
  • Intuitive touchscreen controls for easy customization
  • Compact design (12.5"D x 5.7"W x 11.9"H) fits any kitchen

Cons:

  • Learning curve for beginners (grind size and tamping are critical)
  • Baskets require good grind and tamping (normal for any quality expresso machine)
  • The baskets can be a bit sticky to get out of the portafilter (this is a good thing as they are very secure in the portafilter.)

How It Compares to the Casabrew

The Casabrew is a solid option, but the Tuni E2 outshines it in many ways. The Casabrew single-boiler system means you wait between brewing and steaming, and its 51mm portafilter feels flimsy. The Tuni E2’s dual boilers, premium materials, and thoughtful design (like rubber feet) make it a better investment for serious coffee lovers. If you’re upgrading from a basic machine, the Tuni E2 is worth the splurge.

Who Is the Tuni E2 For?

The Tuni E2 is perfect for:

  • Home baristas who want café-quality espresso without spending thousands
  • Beginners willing to learn espresso basics
  • Small households or offices with limited counter space

If you’re looking for a fully automatic machine, this might not be for you. But if you enjoy the hands-on barista experience, the Tuni E2 is a dream.

Final Verdict: Is the Tuni E2 Worth It?

I’m giving the Tuni E2 a solid 8/10. It’s not perfect—beginners may need practice to master the grind and tamp—but its performance, build quality, and value make it a standout in the home espresso market. For around $200, you’re getting professional-grade features that rival machines twice the price.
